Sleeping bag pads have recently undergone significant changes in design that have resulted in more choices for the lightweight enthusiast.  Simple closed-cell foam pads still offer the greatest savings in terms of both weight and cost, but the gap (at least in terms of weight) has begun to narrow between inflatable and foam.  Several companies now make excellent lightweight sleeping bag pads that are considerably more comfortable and less bulky than their foam counterparts without being prohibitively heavy.

Air Mattress
– This sleeping bag mattress uses air for comfort and are much thicker than foam pads. They are as close to a real bed as you can get and are usually sized to take regular sheets.  Air mattresses are very comfortable. Easy and quick to inflate with a pump.  Suitable for car or boat camping, or as a guest bed at home. However, they are relatively heavy and bulky. They can leak air or be punctured. They provide little insulation, so should be used as a sleeping bag mattress only under mild conditions.

– This sleeping bag mattress uses air for comfort and must be manually inflated. Some models integrate foam, insulation fill or reflective materials to increase warmth. They are comfortable and lightweight and work well as a sleeping bag mattress for backpacking or camping in warm conditions. The insulated models can be used year-round. However, they can be punctured thought field repairs are not difficult. Non-insulated models offer poor insulation due to free circulation of air inside.

– This sleeping bag mattress is basic backpacking mattress which feature dense foam filled with tiny closed air cells. They are lightweight, inexpensive and durable; excellent insulators and they won’t absorb water.  However, they are less comfortable because they are relatively stiff and firm and they tend to be a bulky sleeping bag mattress.

– This sleeping bag mattress offer a combination of open-cell foam insulation and air.  Open the pad’s valve and air fills the vacuum and inflates the pad.  This sleeping bag mattress is wrapped in air-tight, waterproof nylon shells.  This sleeping bag mattress is comfortable and its firmness is adjustable. They provide excellent insulation. However, they are heavier than simple foam pads and more expensive.  A few of the thickest models are better suited for car campers. They can be punctured or ripped, though field repairs are not difficult.

So for a comfortable night sleep make sure you use sleeping bag pad.
