Hiking Shoe

Men's Merrell® Moab Ventilator Lows, WalnutHiking Shoe – A hiking shoe is low-cut, lightweight and flexible. They are used for day hikes and ultra light backpacking.  A hiking boot is mid or high-cut which adds support for roll prone ankles thus making them moderately flexible.  They are for day hikes or weekend backpacking trips with light loads.  A backpacking boot is durable and supportive with stiffer soles which protects feet from rough terrain.  They are for multi-day back country trips.  A mountaineering boot is rugged and stiff and is specifically used for glacier travel and ice climbing with crampons.

When selecting the proper hiking shoe or boot for your outdoor adventures, you should wear hiking socks when trying them on.  The hiking shoe or boot fit should be snug around the heel, yet give plenty of room to in the toe.  Walk down the store’s incline board.  Your toes should not jam against the front of the hiking shoe or boot.  At home, load your pack and walk around inside the house, up and down the stairs.  If your feet hurt, return them; if they feel good, go buy a second pair.

So be picky when it comes to selecting your hiking footwear because the key to enduring your outdoor adventures is to have happy feet in a proper fitting hiking shoe.
